HPE is histopathological examination of surgical specimen ranging from tiny trucut biopsy to large specimen removed during major surgery. The full report includes macroscopic description, microscopic morphology, histochemical stain features and immunohistochemical stains findings. FISH, SISH or the latest, Dual ISH for in-situ hybridization of HER2 gene amplification is addded for breast malignant tumour report. Grading of the tumour is depending on the types of the malignancy and the system that preffered surgeons/oncologists from particular region. Most common staging method is using TNM, adopted from AJCC.
